Who We Are

This Privacy Policy explains how n-ji studio Pty Ltd trading as DebatePrep (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and handles your personal information through the DebatePrep platform at debateprep.net. While we are not currently bound by Australia's Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we are committed to handling your personal information responsibly. We may update this policy from time to time; changes will be posted on this page.

What We Collect

We collect the following personal information:

  • Account information: your name and email address, collected when you register.
  • Subscription and billing data: your subscription plan and payment method details. Full card details are handled by Stripe — we never store raw payment data.
  • Skill level: your selected experience level, collected during onboarding and editable in settings. See below for details.
  • Usage data: records of practice sessions completed, exercise types, scores, and AI feedback received.
  • Content you submit: debate topics, arguments, and text you enter during practice sessions.
  • AI interaction data: the content sent to our AI provider and the responses returned.
  • Technical data: browser type, device, and aggregate analytics data.

Skill Levels

During onboarding, you select a skill level that helps us personalise your experience:

  • Beginner — 0 to 1 year of debate experience
  • Intermediate — 1 to 3 years
  • Advanced — 3 to 5 years
  • Expert — competes at university level or equivalent

This information is used solely to calibrate the difficulty of exercises and the style of AI feedback.

How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

  • Provide, personalise, and improve the DebatePrep service.
  • Calibrate AI feedback to your skill level.
  • Manage your subscription and process payments.
  • Track session usage to enforce subscription limits.
  • Analyse aggregate, anonymous usage trends to improve the platform.
  • Respond to queries and complaints.
  • Enforce our Terms of Use.

Performance Data

Session scores and feedback data are used only for personalising your experience and, in aggregate and anonymous form, to improve the platform. We do not share individual performance data with third parties.

AI Processing (Anthropic)

Content you submit during practice sessions is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate feedback and AI responses. This processing is necessary to deliver the service. Anthropic's own privacy policy governs their handling of that data. By default, content submitted via the API is not used by Anthropic to train their models. We retain AI interaction logs and may use them to diagnose technical issues or improve service quality. You may request deletion of your data at any time (see Contact section).

Data Storage (Supabase)

Your account, profile, and session data is stored via Supabase. Supabase may store data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. By using DebatePrep, you consent to this transfer.

Payment Processing (Stripe)

Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe; we do not store or access your raw payment information. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment data.

International Transfers

Our third-party service providers — including Anthropic (AI processing), Supabase (data storage), and Stripe (payments) — may store or process data outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure these providers maintain appropriate data protections.

Third-Party Websites

This policy applies only to DebatePrep. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any linked third-party websites or social media platforms.

Cookies and Analytics

We may use cookies and analytics tools to understand how the platform is used. Analytics data is aggregated and not personally identifying. Authentication cookies are necessary for the platform to function. You may disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings.

Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and database-level access controls. However, no internet transmission is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please report any suspected data misuse to us immediately.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account and session data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required by law. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

Business Transfers

In the event of a sale, merger, or significant business change, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

Users Under 18

If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must consent to your use of DebatePrep before you create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verified parental consent. Because access to the platform requires payment, parental involvement in account creation is expected. We do not send marketing communications to users.

Your Rights

You may contact us at any time to:

  • Ask questions about this policy.
  • Request access to personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your personal information.
  • File a privacy complaint.

We reserve the right to charge reasonable costs for information access requests. More information about privacy rights in Australia is available at www.oaic.gov.au.
